Outdoor Oil Field Museum

The Canadian Museum of Making is excited to announce commencement of a new exhibition devoted to the early oilfields in Alberta, featuring the tools and equipment that played crucial roles throughout the industry’s history in North America. Oil and gas are undeniably powerful and pivotal characters in Canada’s (and the world’s) timeline, and the Museum sees a need to preserve the rich history surrounding the industry that sprang from the ground. The goal is to create a comprehensive, outdoor, walking exhibit of the evolution of oilfield machinery, with an additional, indoor gallery displaying field tools and instruments.

The Museum has already begun the process of locating and acquiring the pieces needed for the exhibit. If you would like to help us complete the restoration and curation of these amazing machines, we are currently looking for donations from industry and individuals. This is an opportunity to preserve the history that Alberta has been a part of for future generations. Contributions will ensure the collection is a true representation of the engineering prowess of the oil industry, with pieces brought back to working order and their stories told. If you wish to contribute, please see the Contact page.
